Stock Dove

A sleek, medium-sized pigeon often mistaken for a Feral Pigeon. It lives in mature parklands, open woodlands, and on coastal cliffs. It has uniform blue-grey plumage and a glowing green neck patch. It has dark, black eyes. It lacks the white neck or wing patches of the Wood Pigeon. It is a shy and wary resident species in much of Europe.

Stock Doves are unique because they are cavity nesters. They often use old woodpecker holes or hollow trees. They are seen in pairs or small groups foraging on the ground for seeds and grain. Their flight is fast and direct. The male's song is a rhythmic, muffled 'oo-woo-oo-woo'. It is shorter than the Wood Pigeon's coo.
