Muscovy Duck

Originally from the Americas, the Muscovy Duck is now a common feral resident in European parks. It is a large, heavy duck with fleshy red protuberances called caruncles around its eyes. Feral birds appear in many colors, including black, white, and mottled patterns. The original wild form is mostly black with white wing patches.

Muscovy Ducks are more terrestrial than other ducks. They are often seen walking on land. They are quiet birds. Males produce a low hiss, while females have a soft trill. They are excellent at pest control and eat large quantities of slugs and mosquitoes. They are surprisingly good fliers and often perch on rooftops.
