Sedge Warbler

A medium-sized, streaky warbler of wetlands and damp scrub. It is recognized by a broad, pale cream 'eyebrow' and a dark crown. It is a summer visitor to Europe and migrates from sub-Saharan Africa. It breeds in reedbeds, marshes, and ditches with thick vegetation. It prefers a mix of reeds and taller bushes rather than pure reed stands. It often ventures into crops or hedges near water.

The Sedge Warbler is a loud and restless bird. Its song is a frantic, complex jumble of chattering, whistling, and mimicry. Males sing from exposed perches or perform short 'song-flights'. They flutter upward and then parachute down with wings held high. They are active foragers and move through dense stalks to find aphids, spiders, and flies.
